Mamluk Quran Framed Print | Margi Lake
Maghreb Quran | Margi Lake
This fourfold symmetry design originates from a rare thirteenth century Andalusian Qur’an frontispiece, one of the few to survive the reconquest of Granada. There is a simple harmony and directness about this illuminated piece in dark and light blues and different shades of gold. Many Islamic manuscripts have decorative borders (known as ‘guillochis’) of interlaced bands such as this one.
