New Beginnings
It has hard to believe that we are now in the year 2025! Especially for those who are ‘young’ enough to remember the 70s, 80s and 90s. The last few years, especially the last decade or so, our world has gone through so many changes and people have had to deal with so many new challenges, it almost feels as though the last 10 years have flown by in the blink of an eye.
The advent of another New Year leads many people to take stock of their lives – it can feel like an annual audit of things that have happened in the previous year; all the ups and all the downs that lead us to think about the things that we want to change for the coming year. Stereotypically, most people embark on some kind of fitness journey – the gyms are packed to the rafters throughout January; for others, it can mean a time to finally get out of the rut of their current job and to look for something more fulfilling, something that pays more, something that is more exciting. Whereas for some people, January 1st is just another day.
Whatever your situation, whatever your resolution – there is absolutely no doubt that we live in an age of incessant noise where every single aspect of life, of our lives, is amplified to almost defeaning levels.
The portable computers that almost all of us carry, our mobile phones, are not just devices that allow us to keep in touch with loved ones anymore, they are the portal that we are driven to, to manage almost every single aspect of our lives – finances, travel, health and even romance; we are being forced to disengage physically and encouraged to live our lives on a swipe. They are also the portal that transport us into the lives of others.
This last year, we have witnessed suffering that has been broadcast from war zones almost live-time into our news feeds and our social media feeds are flooded almost instantly with images – the likes of which are burned into the very core of our psyche. It is important for us to not ignore injustice but it is equally as important for us to process, analyse and understand how we fit in to the bigger picture. The inevitable debate and discourse that ensues can also, at times, feel completely overwhelming.
This year, our new beginning is a promise to ourselves to find some time during the week to simply turn down the dial. Work, family, friends, LIFE – there is literally something we can find to occupy every second of our every day and it can lead to little time to just sit, process and be.
From us to you, we hope 2025 is a year renewal, healing, creation and above all peace – for us, for you – for everyone.
